LED light works by emitting light that penetrates deep into the skin cells providing them with energy. The cell converts light energy into fuel (like photosynthesis) in turn stimulating the cells to produce proteins and lipids essential for building and repairing the skin. This increased energy stimulates cells to produce proteins, lipids elastin and collagen fibres to repair damage such as wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation, sagging and enlarged pores all at the same time.
LED treatment is often used in conjunction with numerous other treatments to help take years off your appearance. Applying LED light to the skin along with other treatments like microdermabrasion, photo rejuvenation, and chemical peels, among many others, can help to accelerate and enhance the skin’s healing process. This can be beneficial for everything from active acne and pigmentation through to scars and stretch marks.
The LED light has been scientifically shown to improve the levels of both collagen and elastin in the skin by stimulating the fibroblasts cells in the deep layers of the skin. LED therapy can improve the appearance and quality of your skin. It can be used on its own or in combination with other cosmetic therapies to assist with:
A trained and qualified Victorian Laser & Skin Clinic practitioner will set the laser to emanate a mild beam of light at a preset wavelength on the affected area of skin. The laser promotes the regeneration of skin cells and the regrowth of collagen (a naturally occurring protein found in the body which gives the skin its elasticity and strength) as well as elastin, which helps to reduce inflammation, soreness and redness. With further cold laser therapy treatments, increased lymphatic drainage and the passing of time, the affected area of skin can become stronger and the visible signs of ageing may become less visible.
Red Light therapy uses a 633nm wavelength to boost and bring more blood and nutrients to the area. It also stimulates vital collagen and elastin production . In addition to helping to minimise the visible signs of ageing, there are numerous other benefits to using red light therapy. The treatment:
The light source does not have any harmful UVA and UVB. The treatment is not painful and does not cause trauma to the skin, nor is there any downtime.
Typically 10 x 20 minutes sessions will reduce wrinkles and improve the quality of your skin by 60%. The vast majority of people will significant improvement during treatments but the full effect of a treatment is seen 2-4 month after the treatment program.
It may vary anywhere from 8-12 treatments. For best results it is recommended that treatments are 2-3 days apart.
Results have been know to last from 6-12 months.
The results of LED light therapy can vary depending on your skin’s condition and the specific concerns being addressed. However, many Australians report seeing noticeable improvements within a few sessions. For conditions like acne or inflammation, initial results may appear within 1-2 treatments, while longer-term issues like fine lines or pigmentation can take several sessions to fully improve. Consistency is key for achieving and maintaining optimal results.
One of the benefits of LED skin treatments is that there’s no downtime required. You can return to your regular activities immediately after your session, which is particularly appealing to busy Australians. Unlike more invasive procedures, you won’t need to worry about redness, peeling, or irritation post-treatment. Your skin might feel slightly warmer, but it will settle within minutes after your session.
The versatility of the LED treatment makes it useful for a large number of skin conditions such as:
The treatment can also be used to relieve the pain of numerous inflammatory conditions such as:
Because LED Light Therapy is a safe treatment, there are no side effects of undergoing the treatment. You may experience a mild tingling sensation due to the use of the laser light on the skin, but as the intensity is relatively mild, it won’t actually burn the skin. However, while there are no real side effects with LED therapy, your dermal therapist will advise a specific amount of time your skin should be under the LED light as prolonged periods can have some negative effects.
Typical treatments last approximately 20 minutes.
As we age, the cells that manufacture the skin’s supportive structures begin to slow down. Environmental damage from the sun’s rays speed up this process and produce free radicals that damage the skin and cells that produce collagen/elastin. LED device targets specific cells which are responsible for the synthesis and repair of the skin’s supportive structures, leading to a softening of the fine lines and improved skin tone.
Before undergoing LED light therapy, it’s best to come with clean, makeup-free skin. In terms of aftercare, there’s minimal maintenance required. However, we recommend applying sunscreen daily, as the treatment can make your skin more sensitive to UV exposure. Additionally, keeping your skin moisturised will help enhance the results of the therapy. In Australia, where sun exposure is high, post-treatment sun protection is especially important to ensure long-lasting benefits.
